It is considered as a major crop along with cotton, sugarcane, rice and wheat. It is sown on approx. 1 million hectares area with production of 3.3 million MT. Out of total corn production, around 60% is used in poultry feeds, 25% in industries and remaining percentage is used as food for human and animals. Demand in production of corn is increasing day by day due to its use as Biofuel and Silage. Pakistan's hard working farmers are truly availing the benefit of favorable environmental conditions and achieving two successful corn crops in a year. There are two corn seasons in a year i.e. autumn (tropical / sub-tropical genetics) and spring (temperate genetics). Corn crop has proved to be a better and more profitable choice of farmers. Contribution in yield comes from use of hybrid seed with better crop management inputs.
